Jim is a registered patent attorney with extensive knowledge of medical devices, digital signal processing/communications and digital microelectronic design experience. He is proficient in drafting and prosecuting both foreign and domestic patents; drafting non-infringement and invalidity opinions; advising on patent litigation matters, filing and prosecuting trademarks and copyrights and drafting intellectual property licensing and joint development agreements. He was pronounced a “Rising Star” by Minnesota SuperLawyers in 2005.

Jim received his law degree from Drake University Law School, which he attended from 1998-2001; graduating with honors. He graduated in the top third of his class and was the President of the Intellectual Property Law Society. James holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University where he graduated in the top 5% of his class with distinction in 1998. While attending Iowa State University, he was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He attended Des Moines Area Community College from 1993-1995 obtaining an Associate of Science Degree and graduating with highest honors.

From 1988-1992, Jim served aboard two fast attack nuclear submarines, the U.S.S. William H. Bates (SSN-680) and U.S.S. La Jolla (SSN-701) as an Electronics Technician Third Class where he maintained the navigational electronics equipment. He gained experience on radar systems, global positioning systems and inertial navigation systems. He graduated first in his class from the United States Navy A School for electronics training and graduated third in his class from the United States Navy C School for maintaining and repairing navigational electronics equipment.
